MANILA, Philippines — A low-pressure area (LPA) embedded in the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) was spotted east of Mindanao and may cause rains over southern provinces in the coming days according to state meteorologists.
Satellite images from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Tuesday afternoon showed cloud clusters hovering over the southern parts of the Visayas and the eastern parts of Mindanao.
At present, the LPA which is located 885 kilometers east of Mindanao is not expected to intensify into a tropical cyclone.
However, the Visayas and Mindanao may have rains and slightly colder weather on Wednesday due to cloudy skies. Tacloban and Cagayan de Oro’s temperatures may range from 25 to 31 degrees Celsius, Cebu at 26 to 31 degrees, Iloilo at 26 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga at 23 to 32 degrees, and Davao at 25 to 32 degrees.
Pagasa reminds residents in the Visayas and Mindanao to closely monitor the situation, especially those living in hazard-prone areas, as isolated rains can trigger flash floods and landslides.
“Kaya patuloy po nating pinapaalalahanan ang ating mga kababayan na mag-ingat at maging alerto dahil sa mga posibleng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa dulot ng mga ulan na ito,” weather specialist Grace Castañeda said.
(That’s why we continuously remind people to stay safe and be alert for any possible flash floods and landslides due to these rains.)
For Luzon including Metro Manila, the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean would still prevail, bringing hot weather.
Metro Manila will have temperatures that range between 26 to 35 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao at 25 to 39 degrees, Laoag and Legazpi at 25 to 33 degrees, Tagaytay at 22 to 33 degrees, and Puerto Princesa at 26 to 32 degrees.
No gale warning has been raised with the waters west of Luzon to be moderate.
