MANILA, Philippines — “May there be a thousand candidates for the opposition.”
This was the remark of Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday when asked to respond to Vice President Leni Robredo’s call for a “united opposition” in the 2022 elections.
Robredo earlier said the opposition must only have one presidential candidate in the next elections because otherwise, the Philippines will endure another six years of the same kind of governance of the Duterte administration.
She spoke in an online public forum hosted by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
However, when asked if she will run for the presidency in the next elections, Robredo said she’s looking into her campaign “feasibility.”
She earlier said that while she is open to running for any possible position in the 2022 polls, she was more inclined towards local posts.
