Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and three other justices of the antigraft court were among the 15 candidates vying for the vacant post in the Supreme Court. The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) set the public interviews for those seeking the former seat of Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo, who was named by President Duterte as chief magistrate on April 5. Under the Constitution, the President should fill up the vacancy within 90 days. The JBC said Sandiganbayan Associate Justices Rafael Lagos and Geraldine Faith Econg, lawyer Benedicta Du-Balabad and Court of Appeals Associate Justice Ronaldo Roberto Martin would be interviewed online on June 2. Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Alex Quiroz, Finance Undersecretary Antonette Tionko and Deputy Court Administrator Raul Villanueva will be grilled by the JBC members the following day.
