Dumaguete City mayor tests positive for COVID-19

DUMAGUETE CITY –– The mayor of this city has tested positive for COVID-19, the city government said in a statement Monday.

Mayor Felipe Remollo said he underwent a swab test in compliance with a requirement for attending the National Peace and Order Council meeting to be held in this city on Monday afternoon.

President Duterte was expected to attend the event.

Remollo said his positive result was released on Sunday evening.

The mayor, who had no symptoms, was placed in isolation.

Remollo said the NPOC meeting would push through as planned, and the city would be represented in his absence.

“Regular functions of government will continue in my physical absence as I will still be working while in isolation. I will also be continually abreast of the daily affairs of the city,” he said.

Dumaguete City remains Negros Oriental’s COVID-19 epicenter. Of the 709 active cases in the province, 184 are from the city.
