COVID-related deaths in PH nearing 20,000

MANILA, Philippines — The death toll of COVID-19 in the country is nearing the 20,000th mark after the Department of Health (DOH) logged 39 more fatalities on Monday.

As of May 24, the severe respiratory illness has claimed the lives of 19,983 individuals, the DOH said in its daily case bulletin.

The total COVID-19 death toll represents 1.69% of all the 1,184,706 confirmed cases in the country.

On Monday, the DOH also reported a total of 48,917 active cases, of which 92.9% are mild, 2% are asymptomatic, 1.6% are critical, 2.1% are severe while 1.40% are moderate cases.

There were also 6,666 new recoveries bringing the total to 1,115,806.
