DOH logs 6,258 new COVID-19 cases

DOH says BARMM to submit samples for genome sequencing

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health reported an additional 6,258 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the country’s total active coronavirus cases to 55,531.

The DOH said active infections represent 4.7 percent of all the 1,171,403 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country. Of the active cases, 95.6 percent are mild and asymptomatic.

According to DOH, of the total conformed cases, 1,096,109 cases, or 93.6 percent are recoveries. The DOH reported 2,586 new recoveries on Friday.

Meanwhile, another 141 individuals have died, raising the coronavirus death toll to 19,763 or 1.69 percent of the total count.

On positivity rate, 13 percent of the 44,817 people who were tested were found positive for COVID-19.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on Wednesday but five laboratories were not able to submit their data. Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting laboratories contribute, on average, 3.5 percent of samples tested and 1.9 percent of COVID-19 positive individuals.

Ten duplicates, including five recoveries, were also removed from the total case count. Nineteen cases that were previously tagged as deaths were likewise reclassified as recoveries, while 74 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
