2 quake survivors found

MANILA, Philippines—Just as hope dims for missing earthquake victims in Negros Oriental, two residents were found alive by their neighbors four days after the 6.9 magnitude tremor hit Central Visayas.

Office of Civil Defense Administrator Benito Ramos said that a male and a female residents were rescued Friday morning in Kagawasan village, Guihulngan City, one of the hardest hit areas during Monday’s quake that flattened homes, destroyed bridges and crumbled mountainsides.

The woman’s legs were crushed while the over survivor sustained injuries on his chest after the wall of their house collapsed on them during the quake, Ramos said in a telephone interview.

They were airlifted to Dumaguete City for medical treatment, he said.

No other details were available as of this posting.

As of Friday, disaster officials reported that 39 had died while 66 people remained missing after the quake in Negros Oriental.
