Cotabato town mayor contracts coronavirus

COTABATO CITY—Mayor Jesus “Susing” Sacdalan of Alamada town, Cotabato announced today that he was infected with the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“With sadness, I announce to you that I am positive of COVID-19,” said Sacdalan, who also used to be congressman of the province’s first district.

He said he might have acquired the virus in one of the gatherings in the town while he was on official function as mayor.

“I am now isolated. I am asymptomatic; don’t worry, I am okay,” Sacdalan said in a social media post.

Sacdalan appealed to all people in the local government who may have close contact with him from May 12 “to undergo self-quarantine and report to the rural health unit should you manifest symptoms of possible (CCOVID-19) infection.”

Sacdalan, now a senior, said he has been observing the health protocols prescribed by the Department of Health while performing his duties as town mayor.

“This (infection) is a manifestation that no matter how extra careful we are, we remain vulnerable,” he said.
