MANILA, Philippines — The Parañaque City local government has completed the first rollout of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines in its jurisdiction, just two days after offering the jab to its constituents.
“Nung Monday and Tuesday po, yun po ang ating first rollout ng ating Pfizer. At natapos po natin yung allocation na binigay po sa atin ng DOH [Department of Health] para po sa Pfizer,” Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez said Wednesday in an interview over Teleradyo.
(On Monday and Tuesday, that was the first rollout of Pfizer. And we have used up the allocation given by the DOH for Pfizer.)
Olivarez said Parañaque City was given 9,000 doses of Pfizer’s jab, half of which had already been used up as the first dose.
“Sinave na po natin para sa second dose para hindi po malagay sa alanganin yung ating beneficiary na patient for second dose ng Pfizer,” Olivarez said.
(We already saved the second dose so we will not put in danger the patient’s other dose of Pfizer.)
The Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine is administered in two doses 28 days apart.
The Philippines earlier received a total of 193,050 doses of the US-made COVID-19 vaccine from the World Health Organization-led COVAX facility.
Some 2.2 million more doses of the jab are expected to arrive by the end of May.
