MANILA, Philippines — Drive time from Ortigas to Makati and Taguig can be shortened from one hour to just around 5 minutes once the Bonifacio Global City – Ortigas Center Road Link Project is finished, Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said Wednesday.
According to Villar, the road link, which is also one of the major flagship projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), aims to decongest traffic on Edsa by 20 to 25 percent, and on the C-5 Road by 10 percent.
“We will be connecting two major business centers, that being Ortigas and also Bonifacio Global City, so it’s really connecting two major cities,” he said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.
“Kung ‘yung byahe dati pwedeng umabot ng isang oras, baka mga around five minutes na lang from Ortigas to Makati and Taguig,” he added.
(If travel from Ortigas to Makati and Taguig can take one hour before, it can be reduced to around five minutes with this project.)
Earlier this month, the DPWH said that the Sta. Monica-Lawton Bridge, a major component of the Bonifacio Global City – Ortigas Center Road Link Project, is set for partial opening on Independence Day, June 12. The bridge will link business and industrial hubs in the cities of Pasig, Makati, and Taguig to help ease traffic woes on Edsa.
“By Independence Day we’re gonna open the BGC bridge, and shortly thereafter, a few weeks after, we will be opening the Estrella Pantaleon Bridge,” Villar also said.
Based on the DPWH’s plan, the BGC – Ortigas Center Road Link Project will be an alternate corridor from Edsa and C-5 along the section of the Guadalupe Bridge and the Bagong Ilog Bridge, allowing more economic opportunities.
