MANILA, Philippines — Huge portions of Visayas and Mindanao can expect cloudy skies and rains due to the prevalent intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), state meteorologists said on Tuesday afternoon.

Satellite images from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) showed that the ITCZ now sits along the southern part of Visayas and the northern part of Mindanao, carrying cloud bands into the area.

This would result in inclement weather over the Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga Region, and even portions of Soccsksargen and Davao Regions.

Also, temperatures over Visayas and Mindanao for Wednesday would be slightly lower: Tacloban with 26 to 31 degrees Celsius, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro with 26 to 32 degrees, Zamboanga and Davao with 25 to 32 degrees, and Iloilo with 27 to 33 degrees.

“Generally ‘yong bahagi ng Central at Eastern Visayas ay asahan pa rin ‘yong significant na epekto ng ITCZ, at asahan dyan ‘yong kalat-kalat na pag-ulan at ‘yong pamumuo ng severe thunderstorms,” weather specialist Joey Figuracion said.

But for most of Luzon including Metro Manila, easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean would continue bringing hot and humid weather which will cause high temperatures.

For Metro Manila, temperatures may range between 26 to 36 degrees Celsius, an extremely hot 26 to 39 degrees for Tuguegarao, 26 to 33 degrees for Laoag and Puerto Princesa, 24 to 33 degrees for Tagaytay, and 26 to 32 degrees for Legazpi.

No gale warning was raised as of now despite the ITCZ causing thunderstorms, but the sea condition for waters east of Mindanao would be moderate.  The rest of the country’s seas would have a slight to moderate condition.
