MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 4,487 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the total active cases in the country to 52,291.
The latest data from the DOH showed that the country has so far confirmed a total of 1,154,388 COVID-19 cases since the first infection in January last year.
Active cases represent 4.5 percent of this number. Of the active cases, 95.2 percent are mild and asymptomatic.
The DOH said it recorded an additional 6,383 new recoveries, raising the number of patients who have recovered from the disease to 1,082,725, or 93.8 percent of the total case count.
Meanwhile, another 110 patients have died, pushing the death toll to 19,372, or 1.68 percent of the tally.
The health department said 13 percent of the 26,672 individuals who were tested were found positive for the virus.
According to DOH, 24 duplicate entries, including 22 recoveries, were removed from the total case count, while 64 cases that were initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after validation.
The DOH said all laboratories were operational on May 16, while eight laboratories failed to submit their data.
“Based on data in the last 14 days, the 8 non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 2.5% of samples tested and 2.7% of positive individuals,” the DOH added.
