MANILA, Philippines — COVID-19 claimed the life of another police officer as the Philippine National Police (PNP) reports 105 additional cases of coronavirus disease among its ranks.
This brings the total infections among police officers to 22,207 as of May 18, with 1,383 active cases.
The PNP health service also recorded 128 new recoveries, bringing total recoveries to 20,582.
After the newly recorded death, fatalities now stand at 62.
Based on the PNP health service’s report, a deputy police chief from Tarlac — who tested positive on May 5 — is the PNP’s 62nd fatality due to COVID.
He was first brought to an isolation center but was transferred to a nearby hospital, on May 10, after he experienced difficulty breathing.
He was then pronounced dead by his attending physician, on May 16, due to pneumonia.
The country’s total number of infections as of May 17, is at 1,149,925 cases, with 54,235 active cases, and a death toll of 19,262.
