House Deputy Speaker Oaminal tests positive for coronavirus
MANILA, Philippines — Deputy Speaker Henry Oaminal has been tested positive for coronavirus, the virus that causes COVID-19.
In a Facebook post on Monday, Oaminal said he was swabbed after experiencing body malaise and fever.
“I regret to inform you that I have tested positive for COVID-19,” Oaminal said.
Oaminal said he has reported his result to the City Health Office and the local government unit of Ozamiz City as he likewise requested those who have been in contact with him since May 15, to go on voluntary quarantine.
“Following COVID-19 protocols, I will be on quarantine for 14 days; at the same time our residence is on lockdown and marked accordingly,” Oaminal said.
Article continues after this advertisement“As we continue to cope with this pandemic, let me remind you to please continue to follow all COVID-19 protocols, wear your face masks and shields, and practice social distancing at all times,” the lawmaker added.
Article continues after this advertisementOaminal said he contracted the disease even if he was being vigilant and practicing health protocols.
“However, we will never know when and where the virus will strike. This is why we must continue to adopt a unified stance and exert continued efforts to follow safety protocols, in order to curb the spread of COVID-19,” Oaminal said.
“I am confident that with the cooperation of the entire district and province, we will beat this virus,” he added.
