COVID-19 kills 3 jail workers in Cagayan Valley
TUGUEGARAO CITY –– Three workers of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Cagayan Valley had died of COVID-19 in the past weeks, an official said Monday.
Lawyer Romeo Villante, BJMP-community relations service and directorial staff chief in the region, said the virus-infected jail guards in the provinces of Cagayan and Isabela failed to get immediate medical care because of the lack of hospital beds in their areas.
Due to the infection that was traced to the BJMP facilities, isolation areas were set up in case of an outbreak among inmates. Visitors were barred from the facilities, Villante said.
Nurses were also deployed to augment the number of health workers manning the BJMP isolation facilities.
