MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region (NCR) has posted a 27 percent decrease in COVID-19 cases, with daily cases in the region logging less than 1,500 cases in the past week, a team of researchers reported on Monday.
“The average new COVID-19 cases per day in the NCR decreased by 27 percent to 1,479 for the period from May 10 to 16, 2021,” OCTA said in its report.
This is an improvement from 1,930 cases, as mentioned by OCTA Research fellow Professor Guido David in a recent television interview.
Other indications of the spread of infection are in the downward trajectory.
“Over the same period, the reproduction number in NCR was 0.57, while the positivity rate decreased to 11 percent,” they also noted.
A reproduction number of 0.57 meant that each carrier transmits less than one infection, while the 11 percent positivity rate is still double the ideal 5 percent set by the World Health Organization.
Furthermore, the daily average daily attack rate (ADAR) of NCR was 10.71 per 100,000, OCTA added.
“DOH considers ADAR above 10 as high risk while an ADAR below 10 is classified as moderate risk,” the group noted.
