MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday said she wants to run for a local government post but has not ruled out “other possibilities.”

Robredo, in her weekly radio program, clarified that she is inclined to run for a local post — which includes a gubernatorial position — but stressed that this is just one of her options.

To recall, former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV said he was eyeing to replace Robredo as the presidential bet of the opposition coalition 1SAMBAYAN after claiming that Robredo is preparing to run for Camarines Sur governor in the 2022 elections.

“Gusto ko ng lokal — governor, mayor — kasi iyon iyong gusto kong klaseng trabaho,” she said in DZXL radio. “Pero wala pa namang desisyon. Wala pang desisyon. Bukas ako sa lahat na possibilities.”

(I want a local post—governor, mayor—because that’s the kind of job I want. But there is no decision yet, I am open to all possibilities.)

“Mas attractive talaga sa akin iyong lokal, kasi ako, iyong hinahanap ko kasi iyong engagement sa ground,” she explained. (Local government is more attractive to me, because I am looking for more engagement to the ground.)

Robredo did not mention names, but she appealed not to “preempt” her decision.

“Huwag naman akong pangunahan. Kapag sinabi mong nakapagdesisyon na ako, mali ka kasi wala pa akong desisyon,” she said.

(Please don’t preempt me. When you say that I have already decided, you are wrong because I have not decided yet.)

Robredo said she is not working on politics now as she focuses on the pandemic response.

“Wala pa akong tinatanggap na political meetings, wala pa akong mga meetings sa mga local officials,” she said. “Siguro kung walang pandemya, mas may panahon akong asikasuhin iyong politika.”

(I don’t accept any political meetings, I did not meet local officials yet. Maybe, if there is no pandemic, I would have more time to look into politics.)
