SAN ANTONIO, Zambales — A 66-year-old man in Olongapo City has died of complications from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), raising to 74 the city’s death toll as of Sunday (May 16).
In a statement, Olongapo Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the fatality was a resident of Barangay West Tapinac and suffered from diabetes and chronic kidney ailment.
Paulino said the man developed a cough on May 10 and eventually experienced difficulty in breathing that led to his hospitalization on Saturday.
But the patient died while being treated in the emergency room of a private hospital. His swab test result yielded positive for COVID-19.
According to Paulino, the man was among the 11 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the city on Saturday.
To date, Olongapo has 182 active COVID-19 cases out of the 1,681 infections recorded since last year.
At least 1,425 of these cases have recovered from the disease.
