BACOLOD CITY — Policemen are conducting an investigation on the slaying of four persons inside their respective residences in Barangay Trinidad, Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental at around 5 a.m. on Friday, May 14.
The victims were identified as Ronelo Quirante, 56; Roger Fat, 46; and couple Rodrigo Lubay, 46, and Sherryl Lubay, 44.
The 62nd Infantry Battalion of the 3rd Infantry Division believed the four victims were killed by the New People’s Army (NPA).
Guihulngan Mayor Carlo Reyes, in a statement, said the police are conducting an investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“The victims were killed inside the sanctity of their own homes and were quite possibly, victimized on suspicion of being informants during the encounter in the same place last March 23 when the communist rebels suffered a major loss,” he said.
“This is simply too much hardship and pain inflicted. Have sympathy on the people of Guihulngan. Leave us in peace,” he added.
Reyes called on his constituents and law enforcement agencies “to unite against these atrocities.”
“Let us work together so that these people can never sow terror in any single sitio (sub-village) in any of our 33 barangays,” he said.
