Truck ban on EDSA, other major thoroughfares to resume on May 17

MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will resume the implementation of its truck ban policy on EDSA and other major thoroughfares in Metro Manila starting May 17 now that NCR Plus will shift to general community quarantine from May 15 to May 31.

Under their existing truck ban policy, trucks are banned from traversing along major thoroughfares in Metro Manila from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Saturday.

A total truck ban is enforced along EDSA, from Magallanes Interchange in Makati City to North Avenue in Quezon City, 24 hours from Monday to Sunday.

“In view of the GCQ classification in NCR, the MMDA’s truck ban regulation shall be in effect on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila starting May 17, 2021,” the MMDA, in its advisory, said.

However, the MMDA said that trucks carrying perishable and agricultural foodstuffs are exempted from the ban.

On March 29, the MMDA suspended the truck ban to ensure unhampered movement of essential goods following the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine in NCR Plus.
