Police say NPA guerrilla killed in CamSur town clash

LEGAZPI CITY—A New People’s Army (NPA) rebel was killed in a clash with government soldiers in the town of Caramoan, Camarines Sur province early on Thursday (May 13), police said.

Col. Bernardo Perez, director of the Camarines Sur police, said in a report that policemen and soldiers were on routine patrol when they clashed with at least 10 NPA guerrillas at the village of Malabog around 9:20 a.m.

After the 10-minute clash, troopers found the body of the still unnamed rebel. Also found at the site of the clash were a revolver, a magazine for M-16 rifle, seven improvised explosive devices and four handheld radios, the report said.

No casualty was reported on the government side, the report added.
