Thirsty Cup will be held in SR field—league director

THIRSTY Cup tournament director Neil Montesclaros denied rumors that the San Roque Football Club (SRFC), which manages the San Roque football field owned by the San Roque Parish in Mandaue, won’t allow the tournament to be held there this weekend.

Text messages circulated yesterday that SRFC won’t lend the pitch if teams from the Springdale Football Club will not be allowed to play in the Thirsty Cup.

However, in a meeting held between Thirsty, a San Roque Parish priest and SRFC president Evan Ancajas, Montesclaros said there was no problem with holding the Thirsty tournament at the field.

He said that the parish priests and Ancajas were surprised that such issues cropped up and put it down to misinformation.

“These are just individual groups who want to create trouble. It’s official, the Thirsty Cup will be held at the San Roque Football Field,” Montesclaros said.

Matches to be played at the San Roque football field are those from boys 12 and 14 tomorrow and boys 17 and 19 on Sunday.

With 321 entries this year, Thirsty Cup has become the Philippine’s biggest football festival tournament.

Montesclaros also revealed that for its 10th unedition next year, they have thought of getting teams from Malaysia and Singapore to see action in the tournament.  CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
