CEBU CITY—Metro Cebu has opened three more hospitals as vaccination sites on top of existing ones set up by the private sector and local government units (LGUs).

The private sector-led Project Balik Buhay (PBB) launched as vaccination sites the Visayas Community Medical Center in Cebu City, the Mactan Doctors Hospital in Lapu-Lapu City and the Mendero Medical Center in Consolacion town.

In a statement, PBB said there was a need to open more sites as more people expressed their intent to be vaccinated against SARS Cov2, the highly contagious coronavirus that causes COVID-19, a disease which has no known cure yet..

Cebu City currently conducts vaccination inside Robinsons Galleria Cebu, the SM Seaside City and the University of Cebu-Banilad campus.

PBB, on the other hand, has the Cebu Doctors University Hospital in Cebu City, Chong Hua Hospital in Mandaue City, and Allegiant Regional Care in Lapu-Lapu City.

The private sector also reported that it was able to finish the first dose of vaccination of about 7,000 private employees from 615 companies.

The Cebu City government’s Vaccination Board held a meeting on how to use Pfizer’s BioNTech vaccines for Cebu City considering its requirement for negative 70 degree Celsius storage.

At least 29,000 Pfizer vaccine doses arrived in Cebu and are to be used for the urban cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu where there are private storage facilities that can maintain a -70 degrees Celsius temperature.

The region already received close to 400,000 doses of vaccines since last March.
