Old woman killed in Catmon road accident

AN 80-YEAR-OLD woman died after she was hit by a private car driven by an Iranian national in barangay San Jose, Catmon town, northern Cebu.

A 19-year-old man riding a motorbike was also killed in a road accident in Bogo City where the bike rammed a parked truck.

Police said Germinia Roldan was crossing a road around 10 a.m. yesterday when she was hit by a Ford F150 driven by Mehdi Sarlak, 36.

The impact threw the old woman, a resident of Catmon, to the ground. She hit her head on the concrete pavement.

The woman was rushed to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod. She was later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) in Cebu City where she later died.

Sarlak was detained at the Catmon police station. He expressed willingness to settle the case amicably with the woman’s family, said SPO2 Elvis Arche of the Catmon police.

Sarlak works as a consultant of a private company in Lapu-Lapu City. He is married to a Filipina and has been living in the Philippines for 16 years.

In barangay Don Pedro Rodriguez, Bogo City, Ryan Bayo died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a six-wheeler truck parked along a road Wednesday night.

The motorcycle was driven by 31-year-old Michael Bayo, the victim’s uncle.

Police said Michael, a resident of San Remigio, may have failed to see the parked truck.

Freddie Cabarles, the truck driver, said he had parked the truck to change a flat tire.

Michael tried to avoid the parked truck but his nephew hit his head in the rear of the truck.

Michael was also wounded in the accident. Both victims were brought to the Bogo Provincial Hospital where Ryan was declared dead by attending physicians.
