MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday an additional 4,842 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total active coronavirus infections in the country to 53,214.
Data from the DOH showed that the country has already recorded a total of 1,118,359 confirmed COVID-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic.
Of the total tally, 1,046,431 have recovered, including an additional 8,312 patients who have survived the disease. Meanwhile, another 94 people have died, raising the death toll to 18,714.
According to DOH, the low number of new confirmed cases is due to the low testing output of laboratories last Monday.
The DOH also said that active cases represent only 4.8 percent of the total case count, while recoveries and deaths make up 93.6 percent and 1.67 percent of the tally, respectively.
Of the active cases, 95.4 percent are mild and asymptomatic.
On positivity rate, the DOH said 12.5 percent of the 33,529 people who were tested were found positive for the virus.
The health department added that 30 duplicate entries, including 21 recoveries, were removed from the case count, while 35 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.
All laboratories were operational on Monday while five laboratories were not able to submit their data.
