‘CURB CRIME RATE’
SENIOR Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas confirmed that Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza tapped him to become the next chief of police.
Reducing the city’s crime rate is one of the mayor’s concerns, said Lawas, who is chief of the Regional Intelligence Division (RID) of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7).
Lawas said he is still waiting for the formal order from the PRO-7.
Lawas will be replacing Senior Supt. Anthony Obenza.
Mayor Radaza said she already received a letter from Camp Crame ordering the relief of Obenza.
The mayor did not explain why Obenza was relieved although she said she was not satisfied with the city’s peace and order situation under his watch. /CORRESPONDENT CHITO O. ARAGON
MAN STABBED BY FRIEND
A 22-YEAR-OLD man was stabbed and wounded by a friend after they argued over the proceeds of scrap metal they sold in a junk shop.
Ronald Bangcale sustained three stab wounds in the attack in barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City, last Wednesday afternoon.
The suspect, Ryan Arano, 21, fled after the stabbing.
Police said Arano had complained that the proceeds of the scrap sales were not divided fairly.

GUARD SHOT DEAD
A SECURITY guard was shot dead at a gas station where he was detailed on Natalio Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City.
Gregorio Servida, 35, of Palm Kris Security Services, died from multiple gunshot wounds in the body.
Police said robbery was not the motive in the killing since the victim’s firearm was not taken.
A pump boy told police he heard bursts of gunfire early morning yesterday.
The gas station attendant said they later found Servida slumped on the ground near a gasoline tank.

INDIAN NATIONAL ROBBED
AN INDIAN national engaged in money lending was robbed by two unidentified men in barangay Cansojong, Talisay City, southern Cebu.
Raj Singh said P30,000 cash was taken from him in the robbery that took place Wednesday afternoon.
Singh told police that he was making rounds collecting debts when a man approached him and pointed a .45-caliber pistol at him.
Out of fear, Singh said he was forced to give the money to the robber.
