Duterte declares May 13 a holiday for Eid’l Fitr

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared Thursday, May 13, a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the culmination of the fasting of Ramadan.

Duterte made the declaration on Monday through Proclamation No. 1142, signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, heeding the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Duterte reminded the public to adhere to quarantine protocols during the observance of the holiday.

“The entire Filipino should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr, subject to community quarantine, social distancing and other public health measures,” the proclamation read.
