DOH: COVID-19 active cases in PH now at 59,897 as over 8,000 recover

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases have returned to below 60,000 on Monday, according to the Department of Health (DOH), as it recorded the recovery of 8,193 patients.

DOH, however, also reported the infection of 6,846 more people as well as the death of another 90 sickened with COVID-19, a respiratory illness caused by the new coronavirus SARS-CoV-2.

Nationwide tally of COVID-19 cases hit 1,108,826 as of May 10, including 59,897 active cases, 1,030,367 recoveries, and 18,562 fatalities.

The last time that active cases were below the 60,000-mark was on March 16 at 57,736.

According to DOH, 10 duplicates – all of which were recoveries – have been removed from the total case count, and that 40 were reclassified from being tagged as recovered patients to deaths after final validation.

While all laboratories were operational on May 8, five of them were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 document repository system, DOH said.
