MANILA, Philippines — Caloocan Mayor Oscar “Oca” Malapitan ordered on Sunday the closure of the Gubat sa Ciudad resort in the city for violating quarantine rules.
“The full force of the law will be imposed on the owner and operator of the resort, including those who went swimming and barangay officials who seemed to have neglected their duties,“ Malapitan said in a statement written in Filipino and posted on his Facebook page.
In an interview with AM radio DZBB, Malapitan said that the resort was closed around 4:30 p.m. after personnel of the Business Permit and Licensing Office inspected the place.
“Maybe it just happened that it’s Mother’s Day today, and it’s Sunday, and some took advantage of the occasion,” the opportunity,” he said in Filipino.
“I ordered the retrieval of their guest list, and we will also do an inventory of their employees so they could get swab tests and we will see,” he said.

Most of the resort guests, he said, were probably from Bulacan, a province adjacent to the city.
Caloocan has a total of 28,142 cases, including 25,782 recoveries, 1,555 active cases, and 805 deaths, according to the latest available data from the city government.
On Sunday, the Philippines crossed the 1.1 million mark of new coronavirus infections as it recorded 7,174 new cases. It now has 1,101,990 cases, with 1,022,24 recoveries, and 18,472 deaths.
