Farmer hurt in Quezon hacking incident

LUCENA CITY — A 29-year-old farmer was seriously injured in a hacking incident in Lucban town in Quezon province on Saturday night.

Quezon police report said Mark Glenn Deapera was walking home when he was repeatedly hacked with a bolo by fellow farmer Rogelio Degarmano in Barangay (village) Tiawe around 11 p.m.

The victim suffered wounds on his left arm and left hand and was taken by villagers to a hospital.

The suspect was arrested by barangay tanod (village watchmen).

Police said the suspect, who was drunk at the time, waited for the victim at the dark portion of the pathway before his attack.

Investigators found out that before the incident, the victim and the suspect had a fistfight due to an old personal grudge.
