DOH logs 6,979 new COVID-19 cases; total active cases now at 63,376

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,979 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the nationwide active infections to 63,376.

According to the DOH, the active cases compose 5.8 percent of all the 1,094,849 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. Of the active cases, 94.1 percent are mild and 2 percent are asymptomatic.

Meanwhile, there are also 10,179 additional patients who have recovered, raising the number of recoveries to 1,013,204 or 92.5 percent of the total case count.

The DOH also reported an additional 170 fatalities, raising the death toll to 18,269, or 1.67 percent of the tally.

Fifteen duplicate entries, including 13 recoveries, were removed from the case count, while 122 cases initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational on May 6, while two laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.
