PANDI, Bulacan—The leader of a group which broke away from the militant Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap (Kadamay) was shot dead in Angeles City on Friday.

Jeffrey Aris, 37, was attacked shortly before 5 a.m. in Purok 5, Barangay  Anunas.

He was rushed to the Angeles University Foundation Medical Center but was declared dead on arrival, said Capt. Joven Rodriguez, Angeles City chief of police.

Aris led a group of former Kadamay members, who broke away from the activist organization after taking part in the 2017 occupation of a government housing project in Pandi.

The splinter group has been described as “pro-government.”

Rodriguez said the victim recently headed a 60-man team from Pandi who was hired to construct a fence at a disputed property.

He said Aris was raising cash for his group to tide them over during the coronavirus pandemic.
