LUCENA CITY – Quezon 3rd District Representative Aleta Suarez announced on social media that she tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), two days after her husband, Governor Danilo Suarez also contracted the highly-contagious illness.
The congresswoman made the announcement herself in a notice posted by the Quezon public information office on its Facebook at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 8.
Aleta said she submitted herself to reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test on May 6 as part of the protocol of being her husband’s close contact.
“Bilang pagsunod sa protocols ng DOH (Department of Health), ako po ngayon ay naka-isolate sa aming tahanan habang mino-monitor ng doktor ang aking kalagayan,” she said.
(In accordance with protocol of the DOH, I am now in isolation in our home while doctors are monitoring my condition.)
Governor Suarez, 78, went through a routine RT-PCR test on May 5 as a precautionary measure. The result came out positive the next day.
The governor is in a stable condition.
Aleta said she is asymptomatic.
She called on those she interacted with to immediately self-isolate and monitor their health condition.
Those who have symptoms should immediately inform the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams in the village for immediate medical attention and the necessary laboratory test, the lawmaker advised.
The congresswoman likewise called on the public to strictly observe all health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of the virus.
