MANILA, Philippines — Zamboanga City is now under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) until May 15 while Tacloban City is under the more lenient modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) until May 31, Malacañang said Friday.

Zamboanga City’s quarantine status was initially MGCQ while Tacloban City was supposed to be under general community quarantine for the entire month of May.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the changes in quarantine status were due to the appeals of the two cities’ respective local government units.

“Ito po ay effective immediately,” Roque said in an interview over state-run People’s Television Network.
