MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,637 additional COVID-19 cases, bringing the number of active infections in the country to 63,170 or 5.8 percent of cumulative cases.
Of the active cases, 96.2 percent are patients who are mild or asymptomatic.
This is also the fourth consecutive day that the country has registered daily rise in COVID-19 cases below 8,000.
According to DOH, the running total of all confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Philippines is now 1,080,172, with 999,011 patients, representing 92.5 percent of total, having recovered from the viral disease.
Despite the high number of recoveries, a total of 17,991 patients have died, including 191 additional fatalities. Deaths account for 1.67 percent of all COVID-19 cases.
The DOH said 14.7 percent of 44,997 individuals who were tested were found infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.
Meanwhile, 20 duplicate entries, including 13 recoveries, were removed from the count, while 109 recoveries initially tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths following validation.
The DOH said all laboratories were operational on May 4 and one laboratory was not able to submit its data.
