Muntinlupa City allows sale of liquor from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
MANILA, Philippines – Muntinlupa City on Thursday lifted its liquor ban amid the implementation of the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ). It however limited the sale of alcoholic drinks from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Sale of liquor and other alcoholic beverages shall be allowed in commercial establishments permitted by the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force) and other implementing authorities for the duration of the MECQ and in less stringent community quarantines to be declared by the National Government,” the city said in its Ordinance No. 2021-232.
But the sale of alcoholic drinks is only permitted from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is limited to Muntinlupa City residents, whose identities will be verified by a valid government-issued ID, according to the ordinance.
It added that selling alcoholic beverages to minors and those already intoxicated is prohibited, while permitted commercial establishments are mandated to only serve a maximum of two beer bottles, as well as two glasses of hard drinks, wine, and whiskey.
Drinking of individuals living in different households is also prohibited, even when it is done inside a private residence, according to the order.
Article continues after this advertisementBuyers and consumers of liquor who will be caught violating the city’s guidelines will be fined P2,500 for the first offense and P5,000 for the second offense. Sellers, on the other hand, will be fined P2,000 for the first violation and P5,000 for the second violation.
Article continues after this advertisementBusiness establishments meanwhile that will be found violating the guidelines will be ordered to close shop for a week for the first offense, and will have their business permits revoked for the second violation.
