MANILA, Philippines —Prosecution spokesman Romero “Miro” Quimbo on Thursday said that by filing a petition for certiorari Chief Justice Renato Corona has admitted that the bank accounts being subpoenaed by the Senate, acting as an impeachment court, were his.

He told reporters during a press briefing that the “protection of the bank secrecy law may only be invoked if you are the owner of the bank account,” and in stating that the subpoena was a violation of his right to due process, he was also admitting that the accounts were indeed his.

Meanwhile, reacting to Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile’s disclosure to the trial earlier that Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has started an investigation into the leaking of bank records allegedly owned by the chief magistrate, Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara said that the prosecutors were willing to be subjected to the said investigation.
