MANILA, Philippines — Some 1,000 additional contact tracers are scheduled to be deployed in Metro Manila within the week, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said Monday.
In an interview with INQUIRER.net’s INQside Look, Malaya said this is the first batch of the 5,745 contact tracers that the DILG and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hire for Metro Manila.
“All these contact tracers will have to undergo training and we hope to be able to deploy the first batch of around 1,000 to the various local governments of NCR within this week,” Malaya said.
Malaya said so far, more than 13,000 individuals have applied to fill in the 5,754 slots for Metro Manila.
“It’s perfectly possible that we will have again another surge situation soon, so rather than we are placed in an uncomfortable situation, we decided to continue with the hiring,” Malaya said.
