DILG eyes to deploy addt’l 1,000 contract tracers in NCR this week

MANILA, Philippines — Some 1,000 additional contact tracers are scheduled to be deployed in Metro Manila within the week, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya said Monday.

In an interview with INQUIRER.net’s INQside Look, Malaya said this is the first batch of the 5,745 contact tracers that the DILG and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) will hire for Metro Manila.

“All these contact tracers will have to undergo training and we hope to be able to deploy the first batch of around 1,000 to the various local governments of NCR within this week,” Malaya said.

Malaya said so far, more than 13,000 individuals have applied to fill in the 5,754 slots for Metro Manila.

“It’s perfectly possible that we will have again another surge situation soon, so rather than we are placed in an uncomfortable situation, we decided to continue with the hiring,” Malaya said.

Accepted contact tracers will be employed for three months with a minimum wage of P537 per day.

The 5,754 new contact tracers will be assigned to the following cities:

  • 1,347 in Quezon City
  • 713 in Caloocan City
  • 707 in Manila
  • 349 in Pasig
  • 333 in Taguig
  • 302 in Parañaque
  • 278 in Valenzuela
  • 259 in Makati
  • 234 in Muntinlupa
  • 268 in Las Piñas
  • 209 in Marikina
  • 192 in Pasay
  • 171 in Mandaluyong
  • 161 in Navotas
  • 152 in Malabon
  • 47 in San Juan
  • 32 in Pateros
