Duterte orders NBI to probe killing of Negros Occidental hospital consultant

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to probe the killing of a Negros Occidental official involved in hospital operations, Malacañang said Monday.

“Mariing kinukundena ng Pangulo ang pagpatay kay Mr. Mariano Antonio Cui III, consultant for hospital operations ng Negros Occidental at dating chief-of-staff ni Congressman Jules Ledesma,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in an online briefing.

“Inatasan ni Presidente ang NBI na imbestigahan ang pagpatay na ito at parusahan ang may sala at mabigyan ng katarungan ang pamilya ng biktima. Nakikiramay po ang Presidente sa pamilya at sa mga taga-Negros,” he added.

(The President tasked the NBI to investigate this killing and punish the culprits and bring justice to the victim’s family. The President extends his condolences to the family and the people of Negros.)

On April 12, Cui was gunned down after he left his office in his hometown of San Carlos City.

Police have since formed a special task group to investigate Cui’s killing.
