The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LLCPO) will have a new chief starting next week.
Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza confirmed that she received a letter from the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame stating the relief of Senior Supt. Anthony Obenza as the city’s police chief.
Senior Supt. Rey Lyndon Lawas, who is currently the chief of the Regional Intelligence Division of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), will assume as officer in charge of the LLCPO.
Radaza said the Camp Crame has yet to give her a list of five police officials where she could choose Obenza’s possible replacement.
Radaza refused to explain why Obenza was relieved.
“Nakadawat lang ko sa order ug gi-inform ko sa Region nga pulihan siya. I-assign gawas sa Region 7. Siguro para more exposure nila (I just received an order informing that the he will be relieved. He will be assigned outside Region 7 perhaps for more exposure),” said Radaza.
The mayor, however, admitted that she was not satisfied with the city’s peace and order situation with Obenza as police chief.
Radaza said she has been receiving letters from anonymous senders complaining about the spate of petty crimes in the city.
“Di man gyud maayo ang among peace and order, I mean, sa akong expectation, di gyud maayo (Our peace and order situation is not good. It failed to meet my expectation),” she said.
When sought for comment, a staffer of Obenza was told that they could not comment on the issue as Obenza has not received the order yet.
