PH logs 8,748 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday said it logged 8,748 new infections, which brought up the total case count to 1,037,460. The DOH said there were currently 73,908 active cases of which 95.1 percent are mild, 1.7 percent asymptomatic, 1.3 percent severe, 1 percent in critical condition and 0.67 percent are moderate. Meanwhile, the DOH said 4,143 more patients had recovered, which brought up the number of survivors to 946,318. But another 89 people also died from the disease, which pushed the death toll to 17,234. The DOH said it removed 26 duplicate cases from the total case count, and 46 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation. —Patricia Denise M.
