TARLAC, Philippines – The provincial government of Tarlac, represented by Governor Susan Yap signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of the Philippines- Manila last April 23, 2021 on the establishment of the UP -Manila School of Health Sciences extension campus in Tarlac.

The program is expected to meet the province’s requirement for health workers.

The program shall augment the delivery of health services in the area through the students’ training in the communities.

The UP-SHS Tarlac will offer scholarships to qualified students in exchange for performing return service in their respective home communities.

UP – SHS’ step-ladder curriculum

Being the first of its kind in Asia, the step-ladder curriculum is a competency-based and community-based curriculum that integrates the training of a broad range of healthcare professionals.

Under the said academic program,  a scholar may exit as a functional health worker at any level of the step-ladder curriculum.

A student may likewise return to pursue the next level in the curriculum should there be a need for a health worker with more advanced competencies.

The innovative approach shall foster the team approach for more effective delivery of Tarlac’s existing health care services and secure the province’s, even the region’s, need for competent, skilled medical professionals.
