Tawilis fishing in Taal Lake resumes in May

/ 05:02 AM April 29, 2021

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources said the two-month ban on tawilis (Sardinella tawilis) fishing around Taal Lake in Batangas province will end on April 30.

In an advisory this week, Noel Recillo of the provincial environment office also warned fishermen against using destructive fishing methods and gears, like trawls and dredgers, and fine mesh nets in catching the endangered freshwater sardine.

In 2018, the Protected Area Management Board declared March and April every year as “closed season” for tawilis.
