Arrest warrant out for Sandra Cam, 6 others in Masbate slay
Jueteng whistleblower turned presidential appointee Sandra Cam faces arrest over the 2019 murder of the vice mayor of her hometown Batuan, Masbate.
Aside from Cam, named in the arrest warrant were her son Marco Martin Cam, Batuan’s sitting Vice Mayor Nelson Cambaya, and four others identified as Junel Gomez, Bradford Solis, Juanito de Luna and Rigor dela Cruz.
Cam has yet to reply to the Inquirer’s calls and messages, but Cambaya, who was elected board member and became vice mayor by succession, denied any involvement in the murder.
“It pains me so much to hear about the arrest warrant because I know I am innocent. I was here [in Batuan] when that happened,” Cambaya said in a phone interview on Tuesday.
The respondents were charged with the murder of Batuan Vice Mayor Charlie Yuson III and with frustrated murder of Yuson’s two companions in a gun attack in Sampaloc, Manila, in October 2019.
Yuson III’s son and incumbent mayor Charmax Jan Yuson beat Marco Martin in the 2019 election.
Cam, who previously led an anti-illegal gambling crusade, was appointed to the board of directors of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) by President Dutete.
“As of now, we have not received any letter from the [Office of the President] regarding the issue, involving Director Cam,” said Agnes Ibera, spokesperson for the PCSO. INQ
