MANILA, Philippines — The Maginhawa community pantry is implementing a new decentralized pantry system with the delivery of goods to barangays in the Diliman area in Quezon City to avoid overcrowding.
In a Facebook post Monday on the community pantry’s official page, it was announced that the community pantry’s current location will be turned into a drop off center for donations.
The post was also shared by Anna Patricia Non, the community pantry’s organizer.
“Mula sa isang pantry sa Maginhawa magiging pantries na ito! Simula bukas (April 27) magiging donation drop off center na ang 108 Maginhawa St. tapos ihahatid natin ang goods sa mga barangay sa Diliman na karaniwang pinanggagalingan ng mga recipients,” the advisory read.
(From one community pantry in Maginhawa, it will now become community pantries! Starting April 27, our address at 108 Maginhawa St. will become a donation drop off center. Then, we will deliver our goods in barangays in Diliman where recipients usually come from.)
“Sa decentralized pantry system magiging organized at efficient ang distribusyon sa tulong ng Barangay at existing Community Pantries,” it added.
(Under the decentralized pantry system, we will be more organized and efficient with our distribution with the help of barangays and other existing community pantries.)
Further, the advisory said that with the new system, overcrowding can be avoided and residents no longer have to walk far since the goods will be delivered to their areas.
“Mas malapit na din sa mga recipients ang mga goods kaya’t di na sila mahihirapan maglakad. Makakatulong ito lalo na sa mga seniors, buntis at may mga kapansanan,” the advisory read.
(The goods will be closer to the recipients so they will no longer have a hard time walking long distance. This will help senior citizens, pregnant, and persons with disabilities.)
“Mao-observe din ang health protocols dahil hindi na dudumugin ang isang pantry,” it added.
(We will also observe health protocols since people will not flock to only one pantry.)
Community pantries recently made headlines for their noble objective of sharing donated food and other essential items to needy residents.
