LEGAZPI CITY –– A suspected rebel was killed while another was arrested in separate police operations in Goa town in Camarines Sur province Monday.
Major Jeric Don Sadia, Goa police chief, said Marlon Collantes, 39, was killed at his residence in Sitio (sub-village) Libtong Dakula in Barangay Payatan around 5 a.m.
Sadia said when the police officers were serving the search warrant for illegal firearms, Collantes ran towards his room on the second floor to get his caliber. 38 gun and pointed it to the operating team, prompting the police officers to fire at him. The suspect died on the spot.
In a separate operation, police arrested Jose Begonia in the same village at 6:53 p.m.
The police served a search warrant against the suspect and seized a rifle grenade, a caliber .38 gun, and six bullets.
Collantes was a member of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad, while Begonia was identified as a member of the Militia ng Bayan (People’s Militia), Sadia added.
Major Louie dela Peña, chief of the police-community affairs development of the Camarines Sur police, said Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad is a unit of the New People’s Army.
