A 71-year-old woman was sent to the hospital after a turtle crashed through her car’s windshield and hit her in the head.

The woman and her daughter (names withheld) were traveling together in Port Orange, Florida last Wednesday, April 21, when the turtle came “flying” through their car’s front glass window. The mother suffered a cut above her eyes but stayed conscious while her daughter called for help, police told Daytona Beach News-Journal on April 22.

The daughter did not initially know what hit her mother, claiming that she did not see the object until it smashed the windshield.

“Something just came through the windshield and hit my mom in the head,” the daughter told a dispatcher an audio recording obtained by the news outlet. She asked another motorist to help her see what the object was, and they were shocked to find a turtle crawling on the car’s front seat.

Dispatchers helped the daughter tend to her mother until an ambulance arrived to transport her to a hospital. The woman remained conscious and was able to recall the accident on the way to the medical center, according to paramedics.

Police confirmed that the turtle was alive and only had a few scratches on its shell. Firefighters released it back into the woods near the scene of the accident.

Authorities believe that another vehicle hit the turtle, sending it airborne. Bizarrely, this is not the first time a turtle was reported to crash into a windshield. The same kind of accident was reported in a nearby county in 2016, as per report. Dana Cruz/JB
