250-pound vintage bomb unearthed in Batanes

TUGUEGARAO CITY — A 250-pound vintage bomb was unearthed during a clearing operation in Basco, Batanes last week, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).

In a belated report on Sunday, April 25, the PCG station in Batanes said a backhoe operator of Batanes Multi-purpose Cooperative (BMPC) discovered what authorities described as “general-purpose unexploded ordinance-vintage bomb” in Barangay Chanarian on April 21.

Responding to the site, members of the Coast Guard Station-Batanes, Basco Police Station, and Philippine Marines recovered the unexploded ordnance.

It was then placed in a wooden box filled with sand and was brought to the local coast guard station for custody.
