Quezon COVID-19 death toll rises to 381 with 7 new fatalities

LUCENA CITY – A seven new deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were recorded in Quezon, bringing the province’s death toll to 381, authorities reported Sunday.

The Quezon municipal interagency task force said one of the deaths, a 72-year-old woman from the island town of Quezon, died in a medical facility five days after she showed COVID-19 symptoms.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on Saturday that two confirmed virus carriers in Lucena City and one each in Tayabas City, Tiaong and Infanta towns passed away due to COVID-19.

On April 23, an old woman from Quezon and another one in Lucban town were also added to the death toll.

The IPHO records show that 96 COVID-19 patients died from April 1 to April 24, or an average of four fatalities daily. Last month, the province recorded only 28 deaths.

As of April 24, Quezon, under general community quarantine until April 30, has recorded 9,948 COVID-19 cases and 8,587 recoveries since March last year.

The province still has 980 active cases. Lucena topped the list with 128 current virus carriers.

Of the 41 towns in Quezon, only Buenavista and San Narciso towns have no active cases as of April 24.

Those previously infected in these localities have either recovered or had died, the report showed.
